When the vision from media about women´s role in society used to be limited to what is expected under social paradigms, for example, the prejudice about women would virtually disappear after she arrive to her 35 birthday because they have reached the limits of her creativity and productivity in the professional field. In other context, the number or women who could manage industry had not increased until reached the same level of male counterpart. Meanwhile, men in the same age are considered more interesting and with enough knowledge in their craft to be accepted as a mentor or other roles of great responsibility. I am not against some women’s desire to be mothers and stay at home if it is their main goal in life and they feel satisfy and happy with that, I believe it is good for them but not to all women in the world because if there are not enough women in charge or in the right places, it would not be the necessary voices to change their lives conditions, which would reproduce the same conditions of inequality for next generations.
Is it impossible for societies to let them share the same opportunities as her male counterpart? Respect for their achievements in different fields could not be an unreachable goal. The time for increasing the same conditions of grow and empowerment for both sexes should be determined by decision and avoiding the classic behavior of ignoring what is going on since 1960’s.
I think societies are ready to educate the mind of women and men, especially, people who do not believe or support the idea that female had the same characteristics to commit herself and her efforts to conquer any goal in her mind. Sometimes, the saddest part happened when you discover that are not only men who had this attitudes and prejudices but there are also women. Some people say is the way the world is. However, it is necessary to change it. I had the opportunity to know other women who probably are trying to reach professional goals, and you do not feel like you are doing something unreasonable but logical.
I would like to share my experience as student but not trough my words but with Jeanette Cheah
’ s opinions and ideas about some changes in banking services. She is an intelligent, proactive, curious and interesting professional and tell me her experience about how her curiosity to start learning something new for developing her career, provoked her interest to study in a User Experience (UX) course.
I started after I have been working, professionally for 11 years in different organizations like banking, manager services, energy and I have just got a new job in the innovation team in my current organization and it was a little bit change because previously, I was doing product and marketing strategies and now I am involved in innovation for digital and I do not have experience in user experience or design so I go the first day and I basically could not understand what they are saying, it was like they were speaking multiple languages so I thought it was a good idea to top skills and learn a bit more about what they are talking about.
What exactly was the most surprising about the technical jargon that you heard?
Yes, there is a different terminology, which is one of the interesting things about every field, industry or business, it is jargon. You know you talk about campaign customer segments, strategies, segments and media projects but when I came in this world which is more about digital and innovation. Suddenly, everybody was like having stand up meetings about iterations, talking about UI features and things that I do not understand necessarily how this is all together to build an app. Part of it was project language, methodology project and digital language, speaking code, you know talking about information architecture.
What was the hardest part in this process?
I think probably the toughest part is breaking down your old expectations of work. When we are operating in the same area for a really long time, we get used to it. Then it is about realizing that your way of thinking is different, for innovation you must think outside the box and do not be constraint by all the financial, business rules and start big and it is like remember that now I have as champion the user, which is different from the regular business case.

Until this moment, have you ever apply what you learnt in class?
Definitely I use the methodology from day one so it is great to be here and get more details in class. It is quite interesting because we do not have standard meetings, we do story reviews, we have the analysis requirement and we do the screen iteration so we talk about the team work and the feedback required. In terms of the other skills, I am gonna be ease at sketching, I am used to it but a lot of had to be with customers of users and in marketing you got that process. You are trying to influence their minds but in User Experience is more about how they think.
What do you think of women in tech industry?
Women are represented in the technology innovation team. Although male who use to code tend to be men, women use to be in project management, product ownership. I do not believe in biological conditioned skills but tech has more men in that role.
Do you think it is possible to change this tendency?
I think it is actually important to do that. It is necessary.
